Its been told that Jim Maurer went to Texas in October 2004 for the purpose of publicly noting (promoting) Jeff Grove as a bishop. Has this been mentioned on this message board, or did I miss something?

Thank you for all your posts. I have read them and cried. I remember you Linda, and will certainly be praying for you. You were/are a brave soul to come forth and let others know some atrocities from 'behind the scenes'. Your stories bring to mind a verse that has been special to me ....Isaiah 41:10.

More reasons to stay in RAGs group?

Because you don't know anything else. All your friends and acquaintances are there. Possibly you raised there; and were taught anything else is serving the devil, serving yourself, etc.

A "significant sized exodus" from the group.... sounds like a plan!!! (speaking as one from within)

That is an excellent verse Linda, "God hath not given us a spirit of fear..."

Linda,  In reviewing your posts regarding your former marriage to Ronnie, and your concept of viable reason for divorce; would it not be appropriate for RAG and associates to apologize to you for 'marking' you, and causing so much turmoil in your life, as obviously their religious beliefs on the subject of divorce have radically changed??!!

"and told her she had to make a decision whether she wanted to be right with God, or go along with us." (from msshetty above) Who was to say she was not right with God by living with her parents and being under their rule? She could have gone to live with those relatives, met with 'the group' and not been right with God! Sounds like a good way to confuse a child....in other words, she could not be right with God unless she met with 'the group' and lived with those relatives.....Hmmmm! Interesting!

And to Dana and Donna - you were exactly right to let your uncle know his "divisive tactics" were out of line. Maybe he could have ASKED the girls if they had a relationship with the Lord, and if they read their Bibles, rather than making a blatant statement supposing they did not. That is the trend of the group....

You describe the teachings/doctrines of the group perfectly, Linda. You would hope that grown mature adults would be somewhat objective in their thinking, but probably not after being drilled and controlled by the group leaders for so long.

If the RAG group practiced in their doctrine the stoning part of that chapter in Deut. (for immorality), there would be almost as many stoned Christians as 'marked' Christians.....well quite a number anyway.

The following quotes from 'fortunate son' (above), describing some members of the group years ago, sadly is a description of some in the group today.

"In “the group”, there are men who are living lives of lies, and their only way to prolong this fake existence and maintain a pious front, is to support and prop up the head liar. "

"There are some good people still "in" who simply don't have a clue. They are simple folks who lack the mental acuity or intellectual curiosity to put together all the strands of deceit that permeate this group. Then there are the lazy ones who turn a blind eye to the evil and convince themselves that the bogey man can't get them, much like a small child hugging a stuffed bear and sucking their thumb."

To Silentdude and Verity: Whether or not money is a motivational factor of the leaders of the group is beside the point, isn't it? Their individual modes of motivation, whatever they be, do not take away from the fact that they have caused stress, turmoil and/or devastation in many lives. Whether money is the driving force behind them, power, pride, clout, prestige, etc. does not change the fact that they have trodden down many lives in the name of our Saviour, rather than building up lives for His Honor and Glory! (Their motivation could fall under the category of "the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life".)

Jim J:  Thanks so much for that history about your dad, whom most of us remember well, and can testify that this is also what we remember about him - his love for the Lord, and his desire to preach the Lord's word to others. It was very interesting to read the background, from days before our time.

Following is a true description of what the leaders in the group practice to this day:

"And lacking the grace that our Heavenly Father extends toward us, the Pharisaical legalist steps in and demands conformity to his own arbitrary and
precise standards. That doesn't encourage spiritual growth; it just leads to external conformity, which even the world can excel in. And it arouses a terribly judgmental attitude towards one another. Worst of all, it provides a basis for the authoritarian leader to control people." The terribly judgmental attitude towards one another ....is very accurate!

Thanks to the one who sent that phrase by e-mail.
